Simone Fracassi is fairly known as the “King of Chianina meat”. Its butchery, in Rassina, dates a long story back (since 1927). He takes care of his hams as if they were sacred. He does not have an easy personality, as almost all the people from Arezzo.
I met him in 2002 and then in 2003, he was in charge of the dinner catering of Sporterme Prize in Bagno di Romagna. It was attended by people like Gianni Mura, Bruno Pizzul eGiovanni Galeone. Fracassi was working at the cold cuts table, arguing sometimes with Paola Mura (wife of Gianni) for the garlic used by people from Casentino to season the ham.
As all the famous and bad-tempered people, Fracassi is loved and hated at the same time. However, his products are nothing but superb. He is a guarantee, and his ego is less lumbering than that of Dario Cecchini, “the Poet of Florentine steak”. Ambitious and notorious, Fracassi has created the event Capolavori a Tavola.
